Their story is quite absurd: it seems that Bertha Palmer, a businesswoman from Chicago, asked the chef of her hotel to prepare a dessert that was small enough to fit in a lunchbox and - at the same time - easy to eat for the ladies staying at the hotel. From here was born the first brownie, which did not yet have chocolate, but rather an apricot glaze and hazelnut paste.
